THE ARMENIAN COMMUNITY
OF ST CATHARINES
In the early 1890's Armenian immigrants settled in St. Catharines after escaping persecution in their homeland. They created organizations to preserve their culture and heritage and to remain connected with the millions of diasporic Armenians spread throughout the world.
Over a hundred years later we want to continue the legacy that our ancestors started and use this Community Centre to celebrate our unique Canadian-Armenian identity. As such, the Armenian Cultural Community of St. Catharines sponsors and encourages a number of different organizations which work together to not only serve and support the Armenian Community, but also the community at large.
-
HOMENETMEN
This group provides recreational programming (such as Sports Teams and Scouting) as well as educational opportunities (such as Armenian Language Classes and Educational Seminars) for youth.
-
THE ARMENIAN RELIEF SOCIETY
This organization supports the educational, social, health and welfare needs of the Armenian Community and also contributes to the humanitarian and emergency needs of communities across Canada and throughout the world (regardless of ethnic origin or religious affiliation). Under the A.R.S. umbrella, the Armenian Community Centre is proud to offer programs such as the Araz School and the Anoush Dance Group.
-
A.R.F. "ANTRANIG" COMMITTEE
This group co-ordinates, promotes and integrates all the activities of the various groups within the Armenian Community Centre. It was formed in 1906 in the city of St. Catharines and was chartered with the Ontario Government in 1940.
-
THE ARMENIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE
The Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) was founded in 1965 and is the largest and most influential Armenian-Canadian grassroots human rights organization.
